From what I was told by my mother Mary Richburg the day she went in labor started out like any other day being on maternity leave and living with my grandparents sitting around planning her future.
Once her water broke she got dressed and my Grandmother stayed with her praying for a healthy baby until my Uncle came to drive her to Einstein.
My mother said my uncle cracked jokes to take her mind off of her labor pains, as they arrived she was taken to the delivery room and back then mothers were sedated so my mother simply put it as she went to sleep and when she woke up I was born.

Ironically when I became pregnant in 1988 I chose Einstein for my prenatal care and went into labor on my exact due date. I was living with my grandmother (my grandfather passed when I was 3 years old) my water broke I yelled “Nana help!” by the time she got upstairs I was in the shower she said “why are you in the shower?” I replied “because I thought that’s what you had to do” she chuckled and said “no but here comes the ambulance”.
In prenatal care I remembered every detail how to breathe and to request for the “anesthesiologists you need an epidural “.
So as soon as I seen the EMTS and I recited what they told me. Every person as saw I said “Call the anesthesiologists I need an epidural!!!” my eyes were bulged and I was frantic.
Everyone who came in to ask me questions I would answer and add “Call the anesthesiologists ….!!”. The delivery doctor came and I said “Call the …!!” he examined me and I asked “how much longer?” he said “Ah 10 more minutes ” I said “oh no Call the …!!” He burst out laughing and said “No the baby is coming now the head is right here I just wanted to hear you ask for the anesthesiologists one more time”.
What I left out was that since my labor was so swift less than a half an hour the EMTS took me to the nearest hospital which wasn’t Einstein so I came back to Einstein for the after care and the first thing I heard was “So We took care of you and your baby all of nine months and you had him at another hospital?” which became another joke surrounding my son’s birth.
I love Einstein and always will even if you’re not my closest emergency hospital.

Joey is my second child . He was a high risk pregnancy because he was diagnosed with hydrocephalus while I was pregnant! My specialist was Dr. Chibber and Dr Klein performed his first shunt and his second revision . Having a high risk pregnancy wasn’t easy but I made friends at the clinic there that have lasted since I had him! Each of my doctors and nurses there worked hard to help me make it as close to delivery as possible ( I made it to 36 weeks)! His delivery was via c-section and the very next day he had his shunt surgery. Again all my doctors and his doctors did a tremendous job ensuring and assuring me that he was going to survive! Joey spent his first month in ICCU . He was the biggest baby on the floor at delivery and the sweetest. The nurses there were so kind to me and took a picture of him before surgery and after for me . While he was there I knew he was well loved and cared for . The whole team kept me up to date on his care improvement. They always made me feel like a part of the team when it came to understanding what my baby was doing and the care he needed ! I took CPR classes there learned how to care for a child with special needs before bringing him home! Today Joey is a handsome man who graduated high school , became a dietary aid and has unfortunately had to retire early due to shunt complications. He still has come such a long way for a baby who’s early prognosis was he may not survive delivery or have serious mental and physical challenges! I had doctors who saw the determination I had and they too became just as determined to help me not just deliver my son but help his first months of life be the start of a wonderful blessing for me!

I was having contractions the 26 of September. Around 11pm I went to the labor and delivery room. They put me on the monitor to check how far were my contractions and to hear the babies heart beat. The contractions were really close and the male doctor checked me and I was 6cm over so I was already in active labor. I got IVs put into my right arm, at first the first nurse couldn’t find a vein and I was poked 3 times, then an older lady cam and put the IV in my hand with no problem. I was then transferred to labor and delivery where the doctor broke my water and my contractions were getting stronger and stronger. After I felt my contractions hit 91 I asked for epidural. Nurse came in at 12 saying I was 9 1/2 cm and I had to wait two more hours and that if I didn’t dilate any more I was getting c section. I said ok but my son has been inside of me for 4 hours with no water. The doctor then said oh babies can be in someone for more then 8 hours with out water we will be back at 2pm September 27. They laid me on my side and at 12:15pm I called for a doctor and I started to push I could not wait until 2pm. The doctor and all the nurses came in and when I started to push the doctor pushed the rest of my uterus back in order for me to have my son. I pushed for about 20-25 minutes and had my son at 12:39pm September 27, 2016. I almost had a rupture inside due to the doctor. I did tell and scream saying I can’t push anymore, take him out of me, I can’t do this because I was up for more than 24 hrs trying to have my son. I was in active labor for 13 hours. After I had my son I was able to hold him while he was bloody it was the best feeling ever. My mother and spouse were in the labor and motivated me to continue to push when I wanted to give up. After the baby and I were all cleaned up we were aloud and have visitors. Around 4pm the same day I was transferred to the recovering floor and the nurses and doctors took very good care of me. It really was a great experience. I would do it all over again if I had to.

It was Black Friday & the day before my baby shower when my son Daniel decided to come into...

It was Black Friday & the day before my baby shower when my son Daniel decided to come into this world he was two weeks early… as I entered Einstein I remember still being in denial that I was about to be a first time mother. As I sat in the waiting area with other mothers who was in labor I remember being to embarrassed to make any noise so I sat quietly & smiled with each contraction, not wanting to scare the other mothers. I remember the nurse specifically saying to me “Wow! Your handling this so well” & in my mind all I could think of was if she only knew I was putting on a front. Once I received my room I let out every emotion I had kept bottled in I screamed, I cried & begged for an epidural. The nurse I had moved right along with every mood swing making me feel comfortable throughout the entire process she sat there & coached me through each emotion I had. She helped me through my delivery process holding my leg (because my mother refused to look lol) once Daniel entered this world she cleaned him up so nicely & gently placed him in my arms… I apologized for my behavior & she told me “honey I’ve seen worse you did great no need to apologize”. My mother took pictures of her holding Daniel & we still reminisce on how kind she was & how easy she made the process of my first delivery. I am thankful for this woman & I am still unsure of her name. She was amazing & she allowed me to feel comfort during one of the scariest moments of my life. Einstein treated me & my son with dignity and respect and made sure I was comfortable every second and minute treat I spent there. My son still goes to Einstein Pediatrics and I trust them more than any other hospital. They were great to me & my family & I am ever so grateful that Einstein helped me to bring a healthy, smart and kind baby boy into this world!

I live in west Philadelphia I work in Montgomery county, I wanted a doctor that was close to my job (it just made life easier). When I first learned of this pregnancy Einstein monco was not open yet, they we’re in the process of opening. The doctor I was seeing at Norristown hospital (my husband thinks it was called Montgomery county hospital… We don’t really remember) informed me that soon the hospital would be closing and merging with the New Einstein. I must admit I was not happy. I had heard so many negative things about the Einstein network, it made me really nervous. I am happy to say I was presently wrong! My first time there I had to get blood work, I was very impresses with the modern look and decor of the building, I was very happy to see valet parking as an 7month pregnant women. Aside from that there was ample (free, if I remember correctly) parking. The suites we’re big and bright, with nice art work. My best friend delivered her baby exactly one month before me at Einstein, she had a few complications during her pregnancy and baby had to go to NICU for low birth weight. The treatment and the care received was amazing, you would think they had personal relationships with my best friend and God daughter. Now keep in mind I said I live in west Philly, Einstein is about 90 minutes away. All 3 of my previous pregnancies ended in exactly 7hours of labor, I thought this one would be the same. I went in to labor on January 21, 2013 at about 2:45pm, again I thought we had plenty of time. We go get our other kids from school, less than 5 blocks away. Of course we forget my bag, so back to the house we go, again less than 5 blocks away. By the time my husband went in the house to get the bag then back to the car, I was in full on labor. My contractions felt like they were less than 2 seconds apart. My husband was driving as fast as he safely could, and then it happen we hit traffic. My husband don’t think I know this but he went into panic mode, he was weaving in and out of traffic, honking the horn, all while trying to keep me calm. We finally arrive at the hospital at about 3:50. My husband brings me in and let’s the staff know I was in labor. They got me a wheel chair and told me to sit down, I couldn’t sit, they bring me a gurney, someone took a look down there and said OMG WE NEED TO GET HER UP STAIRS NOW!!!! GET THE ELEVATOR HERE NOW! They rush me to L&D rip all my clothes off, its about 6 people rushing around getting everything prepared and ready. A minute later someone yelled push and Mariah was here at 4:11pm. From the time I stepped foot in the hospital until the minute I left, the staff was amazing, the food was good, and visiting hours for my husband was unlimited! Best L&D I have ever experienced! I was completely pleased!
